NHS staff are rightly receiving a pay rise this year. The independent pay review recommendation has been accepted in full - with a 3% pay rise for all staff in scope, from doctors and nurses to paramedics and porters - backdated to April.
The last year has been exceptionally challenging for everybody and public finances have been incredibly stretched, meaning many losing their jobs or getting no pay rise at all. I believe that the 3% rise strikes a fair balance at this moment in time. As our economy bounces back, this puts us in a better position to review other pay rises over the next year.
